At Learning Neighbourhood 2025 @ North West, held at the Sun Plaza from 13 to 15 June 2025, one message stood out: learning never stops – especially in today's tech-driven world.
Meet Zaki Bin Mohamed Kasim, who stopped by the drone flying booth at the learning roadshow, and Feryani Kho, a Senior Project Manager from Ascendo Academy. They shared perspectives that reveal staying curious and adaptable is key for anyone hoping to thrive in a fast-changing job landscape.
1. Learning new skills can open doors

"I came to check out what's new and maybe learn something extra. The drone flying demo was pretty cool. I didn't realise you could get a commercial license and actually use drones for things like inspecting building facades in the construction industry. Or even do wedding videography on the side. It’s a real skill that can lead to other opportunities."
"New tech is changing jobs everywhere. Let's use drone technology as an example. Even companies in the delivery sector are keen to hire drone operators as drone delivery is a promising area for business expansion. That's why we offer a lot of courses – so people can upskill themselves to tap into new job opportunities."

2. Tech and AI skills are core in every upskilling journey

"We get many questions about AI. We offer Gen AI courses from beginner to advanced because AI skills are becoming essential everywhere. Digital literacy is so important, especially as we are already moving on from Industry 4.0 into Industry 5.0."
3. Getting certified builds confidence

"I didn't expect drone flying to be so technical. It requires specific skills and there are rules to follow like height restrictions. The right certification matters, especially if you want to pursue drone operating professionally."
"Having proper training and certification is what makes your skills trusted. For example, some retirees want to start a home baking business but they don't realise that they need a Food Safety Level 1 certificate before they can even sell anything."

4. Lifelong learning is for everyone, at any stage

"Lifelong learning isn't a choice anymore – it's a must. People need to stay informed and be workforce ready. Whether you're working or retired, there's always something new to pick up. For the older generation, for example, learning digital skills can help them stay safe from scams or keep up with the ever-changing technology around them."
5. Learning events can spark new ideas

"The event has shown me the importance of upskilling."
"These learning roadshows are helpful in reaching out to the community. Without them, many won't even know how to use their SkillsFuture credits, find out about courses they can take and at what level. At these events, they can ask questions and try things out firsthand."
