Smarter Homes, Greener Choices at North West Sustainability Festival 2026

"Sustainability Starts at Home", the theme for the fourth edition of the North West Sustainability Festival organised by the North West Community Development Council (CDC), will provide residents of all ages with an interactive experience to join the green movement in the North West District. In line with the CDC's broader mission to inspire residents to adopt sustainable habits at home, this year's festival highlights how everyday choices such as smart technologies and energy efficient solutions can reduce utility costs. Since its inaugural edition in 2023, the festival has grown from strength to strength — drawing over 4,000 residents in its first year, before expanding to themes of Food Sustainability in 2024 and Upcycling and Recycling in 2025, collectively engaging more than 11,000 participants and over 40 partners across both editions. This year, the festival turns its focus to Green Homes and Smart Technologies, continuing the CDC's commitment to empowering residents to embrace sustainable living in support of the SG Green Plan.

 2  The North West Sustainability Festival 2026 will be held on 26 to 28 September 2026 at Northpoint City, South Atrium, and the event will be hosted by Mr Alex Yam, Mayor of North West District, and graced by Special Guests, Mr Ng Shi Xuan, Grassroots Adviser to Sembawang GRC GROs (Naval Base); Mr Jackson Lam, Grassroots Adviser to Nee Soon GRC GROs (Nee Soon East); and Ms Goh Hanyan, Grassroots Adviser to Nee Soon GRC GROs (Nee Soon Central).

 3   Participants can look forward to a vibrant line-up of interactive exhibits and hands-on workshops that bring practical, everyday solutions for sustainable living. The festival shines a spotlight on how innovation and technology can seamlessly integrate into our homes, from smart home technologies that optimise energy consumption, to water-efficient solutions that help households reduce their utility costs without compromising on comfort or convenience. Indoor gardening will also take centre stage, demonstrating how residents can cultivate greener, more self-sufficient homes through simple yet impactful practices. Beyond the exhibits, corporate, community, and school partners will also come together to share their expertise through a series of workshops and fringe activities, creating a rich environment for collaborative learning, forging of stronger community bonds, and the deepening of environmental awareness among participants of all ages.

 4    This year's festival features an exhibition booth showcasing prototypes from the top three winning teams of the Green Bootcamp @ North West 2026, where more than 15 youth teams brought innovative solutions to life to address real-world environmental concerns. Beyond youth innovation, the Green Homes @ North West programme highlights how sustainable living can be a practical and natural part of everyday home life, as demonstrated by Platinum winners Ms Suriati Suhaimi and Mr Aaron Lien. For Ms Suriati, the message is simple: "Living sustainably doesn't have to be complicated. Start with something simple, like switching to energy-efficient appliances at home. It's one of the most practical steps anyone can take, and it makes a real difference for the environment.”

5   Reflecting on the CDC’s green efforts, Mr Alex Yam, Mayor of North West District, said: “This year’s festival focuses on empowering residents to embrace eco-living through green technologies and practical habits. We believe that sustainability is not just a global movement, it is a personal commitment that begins in the very spaces we call home. Through our CDC’s Green Living programmes, we want to show our residents that making sustainable choices does not have to be daunting, it can be practical and accessible.”

 6   Over the years, North West CDC has developed a holistic green community, encompassing various green programmes to educate on green practices and encourage behavioural change amongst residents. Our supportive network is made possible by the CDC's Green Champions, schools, community, and corporate partners coming together to share experiences, access resources and learn from one another. The Green ecosystem comprises different aspects of Green Living, including: (i) practicing the 5Rs in day-to-day life – Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repair and Recycle; (ii) Maintaining a Clean Environment through consistent green actions in the community; and (iii) Promoting Education to increase Green awareness and knowledge among residents of all ages. As North West CDC continues to grow and deepen this green ecosystem, the North West Sustainability Festival stands as a testament to the community's collective resolve to build a greener, more sustainable North West District, one home, and one resident, at a time.
